WHAT ARE WE ABOUT?
Traditional real Sussex cider and vinegar made with enthusiasm in a sleepy East Sussex village called Framfield.
Our ciders are still, unfiltered, unpasteurised and wild fermented in small batches.
No fuss cider and vinegar made in a no fuss way. We leave it alone for months and months and let nature do its thing.
It doesn’t seem right to mess with it so we add nothing – unless we decide to sweeten it at the end of course. We never know what we are going to get and we celebrate each batch as a unique offering – those apples, that orchard, that mix of fruit from that season, handpicked early or late depending on when harvest falls. And when a batch is gone, it’s gone.
Every September, we host an ‘Apple Appeal’. People arrive at the cidery gate in droves offering fruit from their gardens or orchards in exchange for cider. Apples are then pressed, tanked and left to ferment naturally.
Then we wait… and wait… until its ready, which can take a very long time. Stored in vessels out in the field, being battered by the elements and slowly matured through the year’s seasonal changes.
And when it is ready, it is totally worth it.
In 2017 we launched a cider club to get cider lovers out of towns and into the countryside. We want cider fans to get their hands dirty, feel the sun on their backs and get as much out of our cider as we do.

Style: Medium, Real Cider. Strength: 6.2% ABV. Year: 2019. Attributes: Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian. Allergens: Sulphites. With a nod to the orchards that provided most of the fruit, Shepherd's Gold is a homely mix of cookers and eaters from Little Shepherds and Little Goldsmiths Farm (plus a few from Alex the Vet) all in our parish. Many hardy people braved wind and rain to harvest the apples in this batch at Standen Community Orchard Association’s Apple Day. We swapped apples for cider and used the unusual varieties to produce this complex, very drinkable cider. 10% of sales from this batch go to maintain and preserve this wonderful community resource. Our take on Calvados.
We took a batch of our cider, matured it for one year and then sent it to 'The Wharf Distillery' in Northamptonshire to be triple-distilled in a copper pot.
40% Volume, clean and mellow with a distinct appliness. Perfect for winter evenings and slow gentle contemplation. It will definitely warm the coldest of cockles.

What better way to tell your cider lover that you love them. (Or indeed to give yourself a well earned treat). You may not have considered it an obvious combination and, to be honest, we were keeping an open mind... We needn't have worried, cider and chocolate are a match made in the garden of Eden. Cider is after all a wine made of apples with all the rich complexities you'd expect and it pairs beautifully with these chocolates. Rowdy and Fancy's are an East Sussex producer based a couple of villages from us. They make exquisite organic, eco friendly chocolates by hand. Their logo features Adam and Eve and ask what would have happened if there had been a choice between chocolate and the apple. (We wonder what would have happened if the apple had fermented first). An extremely drinkable mix of Cox and Bramley apples from Laurel Tree farm at Boars Head, topped off with Dabinet from Quarry Farm. There's a lot going on: crisp acidity gives way to sweetness and a mellow tannin finish. Lots of funky notes to spark your interest and the slow maturation lends a soft butteryness.
