Through more than 200 years of making real premium craft cider, six generations of the Sheppy family have weathered the ups and downs of combining farming with cider-making by embracing change and opportunity.
About Company
Sheppy’s Cider has been at Bradford-on-Tone since the family moved here in 1917, and the name and location have been a fixed point in the lives of local people and holiday makers ever since. Over the years we have welcomed thousands of visitors to our shop, tea room and museum.
Although we focus primarily on perfecting our cider, we know that it’s just as important to make sure that people can visit the very place that we produce the cider from. It helps connects our cider and our traditions to our customers.
We ferment our ciders using the naturally occurring wild yeast from the apples. We then mature some of them in oak vats, many of which have been in the family for almost 100 years. David Sheppy, our Master of Cider, has developed his skills over a lifetime blending dessert apples with cider varieties to give Sheppy’s its distinctive, high quality taste.
In recent times we have created brand new production facilities, freeing our lovely old brick buildings for development. In April we opened the doors to Sheppy’s House of Cider- a bigger shop, café, bar, restaurant, and much more. We will also have a venue inside an old cider vat which will play host to one of our many tours.

This old apple variety is a shy bearer of high quality, crimson red fruit which gives a refreshingly crisp flavour to this deliciously appley sparkling cider. Kingston Black is a dry cider with a slight sparkle. It should be served slightly chilled but to experience the best flavour, do not over-chill. We recommend around 8 degrees C. It is an excellent drink to accompany fish, chicken or vegetarian dishes but is equally good just on its own.

Make your visit even more memorable with walk around our stunning orchards and historical museum.
The museum collection was put together by Richard Sheppy in the 1970s. It includes many farming and cider making exhibits, as well as tools from associated crafts. Your visit begins with a short film about the cider-making year at Sheppy’s, followed by an exhibit depicting the late Autumn season, with ploughs, harrows and seed drills.
You progress through the museum to the summer season, where implements and machinery for grass mowing, corn cutting and binding can be seen. Passing a variety of barn equipment and machinery, you will arrive at the kitchen and farm dairy section. The cider-making exhibits follow and include the giant old wooden press, apple scratters and presses, and a great deal more.
A small charge applies to our museum, but the orchards are free for our visitors to enjoy. We also have picnic benches and a children’s playground as you walk down toward the orchards, so please use our facilities freely. When you’re finished we would be delighted to welcome you into Sheppy’s House of Cider & Fine Foods for some well deserved refreshment.
